Scanopy: The Document Scanner

Everyone knows about the recent ban on “CamScanner”, a China-based document scanning app which was being widely used. There have been news that Certain scanners like CamScanner were storing important user data and sending them to servers abroad which is not at all safe for the users as the document contains many important information. This lead to the need of a perfect document scanner which can Scan Documents, Automatically Crops the unnecessary information, Improves the image by applying various filters and image enhancement techniques and share it across social media platforms. There came out few document scanners like Kaagaz Scanner , Adobe Scan But still there are not many document scanners which can accomplish this task. Certain existing document scanning applications also store important user data on servers abroad and don’t function properly and lack vital features. Also CamScanner had certain features which we liked to improve so we decided to create our own Document Scanner and named it “SCANOPY”

We have included the features like OCR, Image Enhancement tools, QR Code Scanner in one app to provide the customers a tap-and-go experience. While Developing the application, we overcame hurdles as it was our maiden attempt in developing a wholesome app from Scratch. We gained the deep knowledge of Android Studio and also had the hands-on experience on Adobe XD which we used in UI Development. We also indulged ourselves into the use of Git and GitHub as it has revolutionize the way we deal with programming.

Though most of the features in our application Scanopy are working well but there are still few things which we need to complete and which will require a more time than we were provided. By far we have developed the fully-functional app but there is a lot more to get in this field. The UI of the application will be made more attractive. We are also planning to roll out a set of whole new filters so that the user gets a lot of variety for image enhancement. We are also planning to allow the user to send their documents over social media. The OCR needs to be improved and we are currently facing some issues with the handwritten text , We will look into it and try to make it better. The Automatic Cropping also need a little improvement .We will also work on improving the quality of the document.

After Brainstorming for about Four months, we can now take a stand that we are satisfied with our efforts and feel obliged to get mixed experience. Not only we gained technical knowledge but also learnt the new ways in interacting with the people which helped us in providing the exposure not only to outlook ourselves but also having the corporate leisure. Here, it is worth mentioning that this project made us explore a new skill, something which we always wanted to put hands on. A skill which would help us in our future endeavors. After all, learning a new skill, open a bag full of great opportunities.
